What You Can Order

This builder makes custom solid brass gallery rails — the shelf-edge rails that keep plates, glasses and books in place on open shelving, cabinets, bookcases and bars. Choose any Kinycraft post design, the rail length, single, double or triple rails, side returns and end caps.

You can also add a made-to-measure wooden shelf or a hammered brass covered shelf, with matching solid brass brackets. Standard rails use the same prices as our ready-made solid brass gallery rails; every other option is priced live.

How to Measure for Your Gallery Rail

  • Rail length — measure your shelf from end to end and choose a rail 1–2″ shorter.
  • Return depth — from the front rail back towards the wall, usually 1–2″ less than the shelf depth.
  • Shelf depth — from the wall to the front edge. Brackets are sized to this depth.

Frequently asked questions

Is the shelf included?

Only if you choose one. In step 4 you can order the rail on its own for your existing shelf, or add a made-to-measure wooden shelf or a hammered brass covered shelf.

What shelf options are available?

Two: a solid wooden shelf in natural oak, walnut or dark-stained oak, or a hammered brass covered shelf — a wooden core wrapped in hand-hammered solid brass sheet on the top, front and ends. Both are made to the length, depth and thickness you enter.

Which post designs can I choose?

Five designs, each shown in 3D in the builder: our Heritage premium turned post (wide flanged foot, flared hand-turned column, twin bead collars and a solid brass dome), plus the turned baluster, ball-top, minimal column and sphere posts from our gallery rail collection.

How many posts will my rail have?

Short rails have two posts; longer rails get extra posts so they never sit more than 24″ apart. Choose close (16″) or gallery (10″) spacing for heavier loads or a balustrade look. The builder shows the exact post count.

How do I choose the rail length?

Choose a length 1–2″ shorter than your shelf so the end posts sit neatly inside the ends.

How is the gallery rail fitted?

Every post screws down into the shelf top, set back about ¾″ from the front edge. All rails stand 3″ high, measured from the shelf top to the top of the rail.

Can I add returns on the sides?

Yes. Choose a 3-sided gallery, or a single left or right return for a shelf that meets a wall on one side. Enter the return depth from the front rail back towards the wall.

Do the brackets come with fixings?

Brackets come with screws for the shelf and wall. Wall anchors depend on your wall type and are not included; fix brackets into studs or solid masonry.

Do all the parts match?

Yes. The rail, posts, brackets and the hammered brass shelf are all made in the finish you choose in step 6.

How is the price calculated?

The price starts from our standard gallery rail price for your length, then adds the options you choose — returns, extra posts, premium posts, extra rails, end caps, the shelf and brackets. The price you see is the price charged at checkout, before shipping and taxes.

How do I care for the finish?

Unlacquered brass is a living finish that darkens over time; wipe it with a soft cloth and use brass polish if you prefer it bright. Antique brass, aged copper and bronze should only be dusted, as polish removes the aged tone. Oil wooden shelves occasionally with a furniture oil.

Can I order several rails for one project?

Configure each rail and add it to the cart — each design is a separate line with its own dimensions and finish. Use the quantity selector for repeated identical rails.
