Brass and Copper Care Guide

Caring for Brass and Copper Products

Brass and copper are living materials that naturally change in appearance. Proper care helps preserve their beauty while allowing the finish to age gracefully.

Routine Cleaning

For regular cleaning:

  1. Use a soft, non-abrasive cloth.
  2. Clean with warm water and mild soap.
  3. Rinse away soap residue.
  4. Dry the surface after cleaning.

Avoid steel wool, rough sponges, abrasive powders, bleach, ammonia, strong acids, and harsh chemical cleaners.

Unlacquered Brass

Unlacquered brass naturally darkens and develops patina. Areas that are frequently touched may change faster than less exposed areas.

To maintain a naturally aged finish, clean gently and avoid metal polish.

To restore a brighter appearance, use a brass-safe polishing product after testing it on a hidden area.

Copper

Copper may develop brown, red, dark, blue, or green tones over time. Water minerals, humidity, food, soaps, and cleaning products can influence the surface.

After using a copper sink or basin, rinse the surface and wipe it dry when possible.

Patinated Finishes

Oxidized, verdigris, aged, and darkened finishes require gentle care. Aggressive cleaning or polishing can remove the patina.

Use only mild soap, water, and a soft cloth unless specific care instructions are provided with the product.
